The truth about e-commerce

In 1990, you could have invested in Britain's infant mobile phone industry. You didn't. In 2001, you can make a far better call. Will you?

Life is full of if onlys. For example, "if only I'd known that everyone would be using mobile phones in the year 2001". We have all missed opportunities in the past. Don't let e-commerce pass you by.

The total number of online shoppers has more than doubled since last year, whilst 51% of those who have bought goods online had purchased from that site before. This demonstrates that Internet shopping is changing shopping habits permanently.

The market is growing. The Internet and e-commerce are here to stay, and they will play a massive part in all of our lives. However, the market is only just coming out of the introduction stage and moving into the growth stage.

Evidence:
There is now clear evidence that the businesses most likely to succeed on the Internet are clicks and mortar businesses. These are organisations that already have a bricks and mortar business and decide to make their products and services available on line.

Getting involved:

Building an electronic storefront may seem like a particularly daunting prospect to some small businesses and retailers, the maze of e-commerce products and services available makes it easy for a merchant to get lost.

Here at Sincoweb we have developed a simple step by step stratergy that will allow you to assess your particular needs, whether that means a full service transactional website containing many sophistcated features, or an informational and promotional brochure site to increase customer visits to your bricks and mortar office or shop.

Latest stats for the UK:
Almost a million Britons a week buy online
In the four weeks up to 11th September, 2000 3.3 million online consumers in the UK had shopped over the Internet 10.11 million times and made 18.2 million purchases.

Overcoming Objections:

As far as online transactions are concerned, the biggest issues are security and fulfilment.

Security - People are woried about giving their credit card details over the Internet.
FACT - The Internet is a safer environment than the telephone. Its not that long ago since companies started taking credit card details over the phone and yet we think nothing of buying cinema tickets, booking flights or Hotels using our credit cards over the phone.

Fulfilment - Customers are worried about goods not turning up, or turning up broken. What do they do? How do they get a refund or a replacement etc.?
FACT - Customers must still execise caution and purchase from a reputable source. However the process and procedures are largely the same as mail order which has been in common useage for more than thirty years.
